History

BIRTH

Cuquito was born within a family dedicated to selling shoes at retail. In stores, when there were no customers, saleswomen filled the time doing tests with small patterns. They named the brand ... Every time they finished a new model at the end exclaiming, So Cute! (¡Qué Cuquito!) Sales gradually grew and began to organize a very limited scale manufacturing.

IMPULSE

A young generation full of ideas and projects joins Cuquito. There is a notable change, the company is reinventing itself and important improvements come up:

  • Computer: The company made an important investment purchasing a computer. Cuquito was the first Spanish baby shoe company that incorporated computer technology to its organization. This fact made the control of the production much more flexible and allowed a controlled growth.
  • Design: Cuquito initiated a design department. The designers began to create collections with very innovative models which got significant sales and gave the brand a very differentiated looking.
  • Sales: Implementation of a real commercial area incorporating sales targets and measurement sales systems. Cuquito's market orientation leaded the company to achieve a significant sales volume, becoming the leader in its baby shoe segment, and a large volume of exports.

FIRST GENERATIONAL RENEWAL

During this period is successfully performed the first generation renewal. Amadeo Folqués Lázaro takes the General Management from his father Amadeo Folqués Oltra, and he will be leading the company for the 30 subsequent years.

GROWTH AND CONSOLIDATION

During this period Cuquito achieves a great social notoriety. About production, the company is supported by the university and the technological institutes, getting their help to improve the quality of the footwear and to improve the production systems.

    Socially, the company is more integrated into the industry and receives significant recognition. Highlights include:
  • 1985 Publication of volume "History of footwear" with a foreword by the Literature Nobel Prize Mr.Camilo José Cela, in which Cuquito is the leading company in the chapter on "Shoes for those who do not walk."
  • 1987 Award for Design Innovation Valencia
  • 1990 Birth of Spanish association of products for children (Asepri) of which Cuquito is founder company.
  • 1992 Universal Exposition in Seville. The pavilion of Valencia published the book "Kaleidoscope" which appears Cuquito photographed by the renowned photographer Ouka Lele.
  • 1996 Amadeo Folqués Lazaro, Cuquito General Manager, is appointed president of FIMI (International Fair of Children's fashion).

SECOND GENERATIONAL RENEWAL

In 1998, Cuquito incorporated the third generation. The family defined the protocol through which it is established the family-business relationship. The goal is to prepare the whole company for the generational renewal incorporating the third generation to management positions. In 2006 Cuquito received the Award for Family Business awarded by the Valencia Chamber of Commerce for planning and implementation of its plan of generational renewal. In 2010 Cuquito successfully carried out the second generational renewal and Amadeo Folqués Diago became CEO.
